Trivia

  • Super Villain Island is Poptropica’s 30th island. The countdown started on September 20, 2012, and the island was released on September 27 for members with a demo for non-members. It opened to all on October 18, 2012.
  • Erewhon (from Erewhon Prison) is an anagram of “Nowhere.”
  • Erewhon Prison is also the name of the high-security high-technology supermax facility in the 1997 movie Face/Off, starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage.
  • Common room: You Know the Drill Eatery (“drill” is a pun on the fact that the common room is in a construction site and the English idiom “you know the drill”, as in, “you know what to do”)
  • As you go up the elevator, you’ll pass by villains from previous islands, including the Super Power Island bad guys, a miniature Mr. Silva, El Mustachio Grande, and Gretchen Grimlock.
  • If you click on the sleeping Captain Crawfish from inside his experimental container in the prison lab, your character will say, “Captain Crawfish can’t do much blogging from in there,” a reference to Captain Crawfish frequently posting on the Creators’ Blog.
  • The vandalized paintings in Black Widow’s dream are Three Musicians by Pablo Picasso, Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh, and Water Lilies by Claude Monet.
  • The four villains whose minds you must enter are antagonists from previous islands: Captain Crawfish from Skullduggery Island, Black Widow from Counterfeit Island, Dr. Hare from 24 Carrot Island, and Binary Bard (Mordred) from Astro-Knights Island. Binary Bard’s dream also includes the mechanical owl Merlin from Astro-Knights.
  • Captain Crawfish’s dream contains an alternate version of the Phoenix Warbird ship you use to defeat him on Skullduggery Island, called the H.M.S. Seachicken.
  • Jupiter is the Roman version of the Greek god Zeus, as evidenced by Dr. Jupiter being a disguise for Zeus.
  • The cutscene displaying footage of the damage Zeus is causing around Poptropica is from PNN, a parody of the popular television news network CNN.
  • The final showdown with Zeus takes place in New York City with the Statue of Liberty (but with Zeus’s head on it), with the Empire State Building in the background being a reference to Percy Jackson. The battle itself is similar to the final part of Mythology Island.
  • Bonus quest for members only: The world may be safe, but another villain stirs in his slumber. Do you dare to enter the dream machine once more, and visit a nightmarish version of one of the most popular Poptropica Islands? After completing the bonus quest, members receive a Dream Guardian costume!
  • In the bonus quest, you’ll be in areas of Mythology Island, but the landscape is upside-down and the color is negative.
  • Members get an additional Super Villain Island gear pack, which includes Night Hare costume, Sleeping Powder power, and Evil Henchmen item. The Night Hare costume is ONLY available during Early Access!

    Trivia-related discovery!
So I was bored and decided to look up “Erewhon Prison” on Google, and I actually found out that it is also the name of a high-security high-technology supermax facility in the 1997 movie Face/Off, starring John Travolta and Nicholas Cage! Here’s the Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Face/Off

Slanted Fish: Cool! I’ve added it to the trivia. Thanks BT!😀

  5. invisible bubbles says:

My favorite villian is mordred. Although my favorite villian dream is Zeus’s

  6. super fluffy rainbow bunny of doom and sparkles says:

You could guess that Dr. Jupiter wasn’t who he says he was if you know greek and roman mythology, noticed his beard (it’s the same as Zeus’s in mythology island), his shirt was red(Zeus wears a red toga), and the helicopter’s name is the h-suez something-or-other. suez spelled backwards is zeus. If you add all that together you could probably guess who Dr. Jupiter really is.🙂

    • Brave Tomato ★ says:

      Also:

      – On the helicopter ride, a random thunderstorm pops up.
      – There a lot of lightning and cloud themed decor around the prison halls.
      – Remember when Dr. Jupiter was waving at something before the dream machine is activated? The first thing to activate was a lightning rod-thingamajig. Did anybody else notice that?
      – Like you said, his tie was red, but his shirt is also yellow. Zeus has yellow components in his outfit (His belt, crown, and medallion)
      – You notice the containers with the element Z3? That can have a double meaning. It can either be interpreted as the sound for sleep “Zzz…” or the fact that there are 3 letters after Z in his name.

Also, I think Dr. Jupiter is the first long-term hidden villain that doesn’t have any signs around that clearly state “Don’t trust him!” Not one ounce of Greek Mythology is even mentioned in the beginning. I liked the way the Creators implied that he’s untrustworthy than clearly have someone say not to trust him/something that says dont trust him. It’s more fun.😛

  7. Something else about Erewhon :An old lady in The Series Of Unfortunate Events:The End is named by that, which could refer to the fact that Erewhon is on an island, since she lives on one.

  8. wimpykidfan says:

    good job! Nice work!

  9. No offense, but the guy in the last three photos looks a little weird.

What's popping, Poptropicans?
