Trivia

  • Mission Atlantis Island is Poptropica’s 39th island. The first episode (Into the Deep) is was released to members on April 17, 2014, came to the iOS app on May 8, 2014, and finally on May 15, 2014 it was available online for non-members.
  • Mission Atlantis is the second island to have no common room, after Survival Island.
  • Atlantis is a legendary (but fictional) underwater city that has its roots in Greek mythology.
  • The name of the ship (which you land on when you first arrive on the island) is Medusa, which is the scientific word for jellyfish. The hydromedusan jellyfish at the end of Episode 1 bring you to the lost city of Atlantis.
  • The ship’s crew members bear uncanny resemblances to the construction workers on Super Villain Island.
  • Cam Jameson, the filmmaker you try to help, may be a reference to the film director James Cameron, who in addition to his work with movies such as Titanic and Avatar, is also known for his underwater filming.
  • The octopus who squirts ink for your bucket looks quite like the one in the marketplace on Red Dragon Island.
  • The sea creatures you encounter in Episode 1 all exist in real life – there are sea dragons, stone fish, cuttle fish (as noted in the files, they are actually mollusks – not fish), barreleye fish, angler fish, and even hydromedusan jellyfish.
  • According to this XML file on Poptropica’s servers, Mission Atlantis Island’s original name was Deep Dive.
  • Members get an additional Diving Suit, Atlantis Drone Follower, and Puffer Fish Costume, now available in the Store!

I am not a member but i am still looking forward to the release of Mission Atlantis!
Um.. I have a question, when is Survival: Episode 1 going to be available to everyone?
Please help! I love Poptropica but I only completed my first island yesterday! 🙂

Wait-“bears uncanny resemblance to the workers on SVI?” Is Poseidon mad that he didn’t get his trident back? I think Greek Mythology is somehow related. I thought Zeus had enough with us!

I accidentally clicked back on the island and I don’t see my blimp…Can I not leave the island?

Slanted Fish: Click on the Menu and then the yellow blimp icon to leave the island. 🙂

Did you know that the Cam Jameson is most likely a reference to the famous film director James Cameron? James Cameron is known for his work on Aliens, Terminator, Titanic, and Avatar. James Cameron is also known for underwater filming. He became the third person to reach the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the ocean, and the first person to do so. Cameron plans to release his journey as a documentary, and it can also be likely that Mission Atlantis may have been based on this experience.
(Sources: His Wikipedia article and his recent Tonight Show interview.)

Slanted Fish: Thanks for the tip. You contradicted yourself in the Mariana Trench sentence though. 😉

Anyone else notice that the symbols from this island can also be seen on Lunar Colony, when we are in the place with the teleporter? I wonder if this ship comes from the same civilaztion

What's popping, Poptropicans?
